Akpoborie: Nigeria will find it difficult to qualify for Afcon

Former Nigeria striker Jonathan Akpoborie has blamed  the Super Eagles' lack of zeal to win as the reason for their 0-0 draw against Bafana Bafana on Wednesday.

The African champions have now won just one of their last 11 matches after their shocking 3-2 home loss to Congo on Saturday in an uninspiring performance.

According to him, the result of the game was a bad one and doubts the Eagles’ chances of booking a place in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

"The outcome was not good enough because we did not play the best of our football and besides the Eagles were not purposeful and aggressive enough,” Akpoborie told Goal.

"We could have secured a win in this game but it’s just painful that our players lacked the desire to win, that was why in the whole of the game, we had just a clear cut chance."

The former VFB Stuttgart star also pointed out the reasons why the Nigeria national team have looked so ordinary in recent times.

"Since Keshi took over, we are used to just one system where we rely on the speed of our attackers and rely on counter.

"Just like it happened against Congo we had problems, there was no transition between the midfield and the attack. Even from the attack to the defence, it was not really good enough.

"This has been the problem with the team for a very long time but we have just been lucky. Right now, it is really telling on the team.

"As it stands, it will really be difficult to qualify for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations because we have bungled away our chances. Congo now top the group with six points with South Africa having four points.”

Akpoborie concluded by saying that the Nigeria Football Federation should take a drastic decision on whether Keshi should continue as the national team coach or get another better hand to lead the team.

"The decision on whether Keshi will stay or not depends on the NFF in disarray right now. From the Confederation Cup to the World Cup and now , we should really not think twice about this. Is the coach really the right man to handle our national team right now?

"But then again, he has started the qualifying series and if the NFF are ready to give a new contract, this is the right time to make a decision,” he concluded.

Nigeria are placed third in Group A, behind Congo and South Africa who have six and four points, and ahead of Sudan who are yet to pick up any points.

Champions League Quarter Finals 2nd leg!

It's the Champions League Quarter Finals second leg ties and some are finely in the balance as Europe's top teams seek a semi-final spot.

UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE 1/4 FINALS KICKS OFF ON APRIL FOOL'S DAY!!!

It's the Champions League Quarter Finals and the competition is really hotting up this year with Europe's top teams slugging out with each  other. To add to the intrigue, some of the teams playing for a semi-final place are still fighting it out in their own leagues for their respective titles except for Bayern Munich who have already clinched the Bundersliga title with several games to spare. Man Utd v Bayern Munich - Out of form Man Utd look like they will face an uphill task against once again crowned Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich. Ateltico have proven this season that they can match Barcelona and Real Madrid, so Barca would have to be very careful with this fixture. Barca must take a good win into the second leg, as Ateltico have a great chance against them if they can take a draw or small loss into that second leg.
My verdict- Barcelona HW or 1X

PSG v Chelsea - Most bookies are expecting a low scoring game and both of these legs may be quite  tight. PSG are very good at home, and play well at scoring a single goal and defending it. The way the odds are set up the bookies really do not expect Chelsea to score, but they've been on great form this season and with their loss at the weekend nearly potentially writing them out of the Premier League title race,except if Liverpool decide to drop points, Mourinho will want to excel in the Champions League. Real Madrid v Borussia Dortmund - Madrid have possibly the easier of the ties of all teams in the quarter finals, but last year's finalists Dortmund won't go down  very easy. If Dortmund can take a good result back to Germany we could see a closer tie than the bookies are pricing here.
My verdict-Madrid HW, over 1.5 goals.

In these last few weeks of the current football season.....!

With the various leagues coming to an end in the next few weeks, we have seen quite a number of upsets which have cost many punters good income and profits.

Using the Manchester United and Wigan example I gave above, a bookmaker can say his price/odds for the match is 1.2. This means that whatever you bet with will be multiplied by 1.2. Is it making sense now?

Predict that Wigan will beat Manchester United, the odds could be 14.2. That means that whatever you bet with will be multiplied by 14.2. Let's still use the Manchester United and Wigan example.

So if you want to bet on it, what would you do? Manchester United to win at 1.2? If you put N1,000 on that, you will get just N1,200 in return. That is just N200 gain. Or will you back Wigan to win at 14.2? You only need to put in N1,000 to win N14,200. But will Wigan beat Manchester United?
